Bounsweet Community Day is fast approaching and maybe you’re thinking about using its family line in Pokemon GO’s PVP. Perhaps, you’re reading this article after the event has long concluded and just want to test its mettle out. In any case, this guide is all about teaching you how to have a sweet time using Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena competitively in Pokemon GO.

Are Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena Good in PVP?

Before we delve into how you could use them, it is important to answer this question before scheming with the mangosteen family of Pokemon: are Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena actually good in Pokemon GO’s PVP?

The short answer to that question is not really, but they can be spicy picks depending on the Great Battle League’s (GBL) meta. Considering its entire evolution line is a grass monotype, Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena can, at the very least, all hold their own against the water types that dominate the current GBL meta.

If you are keen on using mangosteens in your next Pokemon GO PVP battles, here is how you can use Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena competitively.

Bounsweet in Pokemon GO PVP

As the baby mangosteen of the family line, Bounsweet is not really a Pokemon that players immediately think of when they form PVP teams in Pokemon GO. However, in cases where the GBL will have themed little cups in the future, then maybe Bounsweet can shine in Pokemon GO’s PVP stage one day.

If you do consider using Bounsweet sometime in the future, do note that it is a very vulnerable and inflexible Pokemon to use with no shield pressure as its movesets are slow.

Speaking of its movesets…

Bounsweet’s Best PVP Moveset

Bounsweet’s best PVP moveset all depends on which fast move you want to run on it.

Bounsweet only has two fast moves: the Grass-type move Razor Leaf and the Fairy-type move Charm. Both Razor Leaf and Charm provide fast move pressure as they both deal heavy damage in exchange for low energy output. This makes Bounsweet a glass cannon in most scenarios.

Thus, either fast move option is viable. Do note though that Razor Leaf just edges out Charm with just a single point of damage, and that single point can sometimes make all the difference in a match.

For charged move options, Bounsweet only has two charged moves: the Grass-type attack Energy Ball and the Fairy-type attack Draining Kiss. Given Bounsweet’s terrible vulnerability and its fast moves’ low energy output, we doubt you can even fire a charged move during your matches (but if you can actually do it then kudos to your abilities).

Steenee in Pokemon GO PVP

As with most second-stage evolutions, Steenee is lackluster when it comes to competitive viability. Just like its previous evolution, Steenee will only ever shine in really niche GBL cups, specifically just in little catch cups.

So, if the day comes when Steenee would be useful, just refer to this article as your guide.

Steenee’s Best PVP Moveset

Basically, having a Bounsweet evolve into Steenee does not really change anything for its competitive usefulness in Pokemon GO. In fact, Steenee’s movesets stay the same as what you could use for Bounsweet but with two new additional moves.

For its fast moves, Steenee still has Razor Leaf and Charm as its only two options. Just like what we have already discussed with Bounsweet’s, we suggest using Razor Leaf more than Charm just because you would primarily use Steenee as a Grass-type sweeper. However, if you do feel like spicing it up, Charm is not a bad alternative too as it provides coverage against dragon and fighting-type Pokemon.

For its charged moves, Steenee retains access to Energy Ball and Draining Kiss. For the same reasons we listed for Bounsweet, these two charged moves are not ideal as you can barely charge them with your fast moves. Thankfully, Steenee does have access to two other moves: the Grass-type charged attack Grass Knot and the Ice-type charged attack Triple Axel.

As such, running Grass Knot and Triple Axel would be the most optimal choice for Steenee in PVP. Grass Knot is a lot cheaper to charge compared to Energy Ball, thereby having more damage per energy which basically means you can deal more damage per charged move. Meanwhile, having access to Triple Axel provides you extra coverage against one of Steeenee’s weaknesses, those pesky flying types.

Tsareena in Pokemon GO PVP

Now, Tsareena is the saving grace for this mangosteen line of Pokemon. You can basically use it on all three leagues of the Great Battle League. Although it does not rank high, Tsareena has respectable scores for the Great League and Ultra League and an even better performance (theoretically at least) in the Master League.

For the Great League and the Ultra League, Tsareena is capable of taking down the Water-type behemoths in the current meta. In the Great League, Tsareena triumphs against Swampert, Whiscash, Azumarill, Lanturn, and even against Galarian Stunfisk. Meanwhile, in the Ultra League, Tsareena sees some wins against the likes of Greninja, Jellicent, Tapu Fini, and Golisopod.

As for its performance in the Master League, Tsareena would require very technical and high-skilled team party planning to make it work. Once your past theorycrafting, you can use Tsareena to take down the likes of Ground-type threats like Excadrill, Groudon, and Therian Form Landorus as well as Kyogre in the Master League.

Tsareena’s Best PVP Moveset

Now that you know how great Tsareena could be in PVP, let’s talk about its best PVP movesets.

Just like its previous two evolutions, Tsareena still has access to Charm and Razor Leaf. Depending on how you want to use Tsareena, both moves can be your choice for fast moves. Your best bet, however, is to use the Grass-type move Magical Leaf for Tsareena. Considering the move’s high energy yield, having Magical Leaf as Tsareena’s fast move adds a shield pressure advantage to your setup.

The real fun starts now as Tsareena has more choices in charged moves compared to its previous evolutions, thereby making it a versatile Pokemon compared to Bounsweet and Steenee.

Tsareena maintains access to Energy Ball, Grass Knot, Draining Kiss, and Triple Axel. Combine any two combinations of them with the high-energy-yielding fast move Magical Leaf and voila you have yourself a lot of coverage against a lot of Pokemon. As for our personal opinion, we suggest having Triple Axel and Grass Knot as your moves simply because of the meta coverage those two provide.

Besides those moves, Tsareena also has access to the Normal-type attack Stomp and its new community day exclusive move: the Fighting-type attack High Jump Kick.

Using Stomp gives Tsareena a move that can be neutrally spammed, thereby making it a great shield bait while also being a good neutral damage against non-super effective opponents. Meanwhile, High Jump Kick allows Tsareena to soar above the defensive walls one might face in PVP battles, such as high stamina normal, rock, ice, and steel-type Pokemon.

Final Thoughts on Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena

Although the mangosteens are not generally good in the world of PVP in Pokemon GO, Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena may find some success in future niche-themed cups. As such, it is best to practice using the mangosteen trio as soon as possible so that you can be one step ahead in your future PVP endeavors.

Who knows, mangosteens are considered a super fruit and you might just prove that Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena can be super good PVP Pokemon just because you have read this guide.
