Zlatan Ibrahimovic is pushing for Thiago Motta to become the new manager of AC Milan, according to a report. The two know each other very well from their time at Paris Saint-Germain and the Swede now wants to overtake Juventus.

Stefano Pioli will leave Milan at the end of the season and work is currently ongoing to identify his replacement. Sergio Conceicao appears to be a strong candidate, just like Paulo Fonseca, but Thiago Motta is also on the list.

As reported by Tuttosport this morning (via MilanNews), Motta was the first manager that Milan probed in December when Pioli struggled with the team. Contacts were made, but nothing advanced, and then Pioli managed to turn things around.

The Rossoneri’s positive form in the league allowed Juventus to swoop in and open talks with Motta, now clearly in the lead in the race. Ibrahimovic is pushing for Motta’s arrival, having played with him at PSG, and he know aims to overtake the Bianconeri in the race.

Milan will make an attempt for Motta, presenting their project and explaining how he would be at the core, but precautions have been taken by initiating contact with other candidates as well. Should it be too late for the Bologna man, in other words, then there are options.
