We are in fight week for the undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury & Oleksandr Usyk, which also means news about future events is discussed on social media. H.E. Turki Alalshikh was on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, and they discussed several topics. One was the potential fight between undisputed super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford. While on the MMA Hour, Alalshikh had this to say about the potential matchup.

“I don’t understand why the IBF put a mandatory to Canelo (Alvarez) very soon and they do it like this for the third time with us. They do it before with (Jai) Opetaia (Filip), Hrgovic, and we don’t understand, especially from IBF. I hope they understand this message because in the end, we don’t want the fighters to step down from his belt if this is necessary. Our target is to do Canelo-(Terence) Crawford, but now I don’t want to think. I’m focusing on Saturday and the biggest fight of the century.”

Helwani would later ask about the location, to which Alalshikh replied, “First option, in America because we would do it as a business and a commercial for our country.” When Helwani asked specifically where in America, Alalshikh said, “It depends (on) who gives up the right things. Who will deliver for us, whether its (Las) Vegas, Los Angeles or New York. One of the three cities.”

The situation Alalshikh is referring to is the one with the IBF, where they have announced that Canelo must next face his mandatory of William Skull after successfully defending his titles on May 4 against Jaime Munguia. Canelo and Skull’s teams have four weeks to reach an agreement before the fight goes to a purse bid. There were some rumors that Edgar Berlanga may be the one to get the fight, but this pressure by the IBF could trigger a step-aside fee for Skull if Alalshikh wants to really push for the Crawford fight.

With regard to Crawford, he will be in action on August 3 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in a fight that will also have the interim WBO title on the line. That fight headlines a stacked card, which is also brought to you by Riyadh Season. It looks like, win, lose, or draw, Alalshikh wants to make the Canelo-Crawford fight, so the next few weeks will determine how this plays out. In the meantime, look for more news to keep rolling out this week regarding future events hosted by Riyadh Season.
